What is the $60 Weekly Grocery Challenge?
Each week my goal is to spend approximately $60 for food, drinks, groceries, toiletries and medicine for my family of five. Then, I report on this blog the items that I bought, the best sales and coupon match-ups that I found and hopefully by doing so, help you stretch your family’s grocery budget, as well!
How Did I Do This Week?
Aldi – Spent $10.48
Harris Teeter – Spent $54.42, Saved $89.42
Total for the Week – $64.90*
*Although I went slightly over my goal this week, I received $27.50 in grocery rebates this week so I actually came out ahead.
Aldi Shopping Trip
Spent $10.48
My favorite deal at Aldi this week is the package of four zucchinis for only $.99.
Harris Teeter Shopping Trip
Spent $54.42, Saved $89.42
Most all of the coupon matchups and deals shown in the grocery picture above are on my list, with just a few exceptions. The large International Delight coffee creamer was free thanks to a coupon I received in the mail and the two jars of Jif peanut butter were in a markdown grocery cart for only $1.64 each. I am thinking now I should have stocked up and purchased more at that great price. The expiration date is not until December and the cashier said they were only marked down due to a packaging change. Lastly, the Pop-tarts I purchased are on sale this week for $1.99 and I used $1.50/1 coupons that I received as a reward (after redeeming points) from Kellogg’s Family Rewards.
Another great deal I wanted to point out is the $1.99 everyday regular price for the boneless, skinless chicken breast in the fresh meat department. Several readers had emailed me recently about this great deal and I finally spotted it at my Harris Teeter. It is not in the packaged meat area. Instead, it is in the fresh meat case and you just have to get someone from the meat department to wrap it for you (it is in the brown paper in my grocery picture above). I know I will definitely be using this option quite a bit now that I have made this discovery.
