From the Homemaking Mom Mailbox

I love, love, love to read comments on this website, receive email questions (info@homemakingmom.com) and get feedback on my Homemaking Mom Facebook page.  Please keep it coming! I received the question below in an email from a reader and I am sharing it because I thought many of you may also have the same question…

“I was just wondering how the multiple transactions go at say…CVS? Do they become irritated because you are doing three seperate sales or do they even seem to care? Maybe you go when they are not super busy as to not hold up the next in line? Let me know because I would love to save money, but dont want to become a bother to those waiting on me. Thank you for your time.”

Here is My Response:

“To answer your question, I have never had any cashier at CVS act annoyed at all about multiple transactions. The first few times I did multiple transactions I wondered, too, if it was bothersome and if the store minded.  But, anytime I have ever mentioned the multiple transactions to cashiers during the course of conversation, they have responded by saying they are totally fine with it and are used to it because customers do it all the time.  Many have told me they do the multiple transactions themselves since you can save so much money that way.

I do try to time my shopping trips when the store isn’t so busy or wait to check out when there is no one in line. That way, I am not making anyone wait.  And, I have my CVS card and coupons organized and ready to go when I approach the cashier.

I would definitely encourage you to give it a try.  I held off for a long time doing the drug store deals, but once I got started with the CVS Extra Care Bucks, I became totally hooked and have saved A LOT of money! I hope this helps.”

Savvy Saturday Quick Tip – The Tissue Paper Experiment

I have three little boys and they attend a lot of birthday parties.  I have an impressive “stash” of gift bags, gift wrap, cards, ribbons, etc.  However, I discovered this morning when I went to wrap (more like bag up) birthday gifts for the two parties my five-year-old is attending this weekend, that I was totally OUT of tissue paper.

O.k., when I say “out,” I actually mean that I didn’t have any brand new tissue paper right out of the pack.  What did I have?  Lots of crumpled up tissue paper in gift boxes and bags from Christmas.  I tried to work with it…I flattened it…I smoothed it out…but, no…it wasn’t going to work.  As much as I tried to work with it, it still looked pretty rough (see picture below).

I once read that you can use a warm iron to smooth out tissue paper to make it look good as new.  And, you know what, I put this tip to the test this morning and IT WORKS! As you can see in the following picture, the iron flattened it out and made it look crisp once again.

I must say I am feeling pretty “green” right now 🙂  The tissue paper that could’ve hit the landfill is now getting to be used one more time.  I love when I find a resourceful way to use what I already have on hand here at home. Now, I am not saying that I am going to start ironing all of my tissue paper out as opposed to buying more, but it sure is nice to know this helpful tip that I can use in the future when in a pinch.  I hope it helps you out, as well…
