Money Saving Monday – Final Harris Teeter Triple Coupon Trip, FREE Degree Deodorant at Target & $.49 Toilet Paper at Food Lion

After taking a break from triple coupons at Harris Teeter for the weekend, I was ready to go this morning for one final trip.  Good news?  For everything pictured, my total was only $2.25 (plus tax)!  My total prior to VIC and coupons was $35.

Bad news?  My Harris Teeter store must have been hit hard over the weekend.  I had quite a few coupons I clipped from yesterday’s newspaper that I had hoped to use (i.e. Heinz ketchup, Breakstone’s cottage cheese doubles, Trop50 lemonade, etc.), but they were totally out of stock.

No complaints, though, from me.  I feel lucky to have access to a store that offers triple coupons promotions and I certainly saved a ton of money and stocked up on many items. For any of you who plan to shop today or tomorrow prior to triples ending, click here to view my updated triple coupon matchup list! FREE Haribo gummy bears or Smucker’s grape jelly anyone? Also, you gotta love a $.49 bag of Fresh Express spinach.

Heading to Target?  You can pick up FREE Degree deodorant this week! Here’s how – the current price of the Degree deodorant is $1.97. Click here to print a manufacturer’s coupon for $1.00 off (it can be found under zip code 60051 in the personal care category) AND click here to print a Target store coupon for $1.00 off. When you stack both coupons, it makes it FREE!

You can also use the $1.00 off manufacturer’s coupon  to purchase the travel size men’s Degree deodorant at Walmart for FREE.

Yesterday’s (May 22) Sunday newspaper coupon insert included a coupon for $1.00 off any Marcal Small Steps item.  Food Lion carries these items and you can use the coupon to purchase a 4 pack of toilet paper for $.49 or to purchase a FREE roll of Marcal Small Steps paper towels.

$60 Weekly Grocery Challenge – My Harris Teeter Triple Coupon Shopping Trips 5/18 – 5/24

What is the $60 Weekly Grocery Challenge?

Each week my goal is to spend approximately $60 for food, drinks, groceries, toiletries, diapers and medicine for my family of five. Then, I report on this blog the items that I bought, the best sales and coupon match-ups that I found and hopefully by doing so, help you stretch your family’s grocery budget, as well!

This week will be a little different than most due to the fact I will be grocery shopping more than once since it is TRIPLE COUPON week at Harris Teeter!  I will post a picture below of the items I get during each shopping trip and will continue to update my coupon matchup list throughout the week as new coupons are released.  Happy shopping!

Harris Teeter Triple Coupon Shopping Trip Day #1

Spent $3.82 (plus tax) and saved $53.16!

The hardest part about today was trying to decide which 20 coupons to use today since I have so many I would like to redeem during triples 🙂  For the list of coupon matchups that I used today and plan to use throughout the week, click here!

Harris Teeter Triple Coupon Shopping Trip Day #2

Spent $4.45 (plus tax) and saved $50.30!

Most of the items I picked up today were either free or cost very little.  Of the total $4.45 spent, $3.00 of that amount was on the two bags of Sun Chips ($1.50 per bag).  But, my family loves Sun Chips and you can’t ever find them that cheap, so I included them in my shopping trip today.  However, if you take those out of my picture above, everything else only came to a grand total of $1.45!

Click here to view my triple coupon matchups list so you can go pick up your very own basket of practically free items!

Reader Pictures – Harris Teeter Triple Coupon Shopping Trips

I love seeing the great deals my readers are finding during triples!  Here is a picture a reader submitted from her and another family member’s combined trip.  The combined total was $28 for $162 worth of groceries.

Here is another reader pic.  Her total dropped to $78 after VIC savings and then down to $34 after her coupons were tripled.  Great job ladies!

Did you find any great grocery/drug store bargains this week?

If you have a blog, link up below.  If not, feel free to comment on this post with your grocery savings!

Meal-time Monday – Fresh Cherry Crisp Dessert

Yesterday, my father-in-law gave us a big bowl of fresh cherries that he had picked from his orchard.  Not only were they already picked for us, but he also removed the seeds, as well.  Awesome!

They are yummy to just eat fresh and we thought about freezing some of them (but, I don’t think they are going to last long enough to make it into freezer bags).  However, we used some of them to make this Fresh Cherry Crisp Dessert last night. It turned out so yummy and I would highly recommend it (but, I will warn you that it is hard to have just one helping)!

Fresh Cherry Crisp Dessert

Ingredients

  • 4 cups pitted sour cherries
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour

Topping

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup softened butter

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Combine cherries, 1 1/2 cups white sugar, and 4 tablespoons flour. Pour into 9×13 inch baking dish. Next, in a separate bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups flour, oats, and brown sugar. Mix well and spread over cherries.
  3. Bake in preheated oven for approximately 45 minutes (or until topping is golden brown).

Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Is Going On Today (Saturday, May 14)

This morning I have started bagging up items for the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.  It is going on TODAY ONLY (May 14) and it is super simple to participate. All you have to do is bag up non-perishable food items and leave them at your mailbox for pickup.  They will then be delivered to a local food bank.

This is a wonderful way for any of you fellow couponers to put some of the extra items in your stockpile to good use and help families in need (one of my couponing goals this year).  These are difficult economic times for many families and now is the time (more than ever) to help each other out. This is what I have gathered so far (not done, but I wanted to go ahead and post this to let everyone know about this food drive early enough in the day so that you have time to gather items and participate, as well):

I checked with a mail carrier and he said it is fine to donate toiletries (in addition to the food) as it is all going to charity and will get to families in need.  I would encourage you to glance through your pantry and cabinets and see what you can find to donate today.   What a great feeling to pay it forward!

Thrifty Thursday Deal Roundup – Mitchum Deodorant ($.99), Sally Hansen Nail Polish ($.49), Kandoo Baby Wipes ($.49) & HOT Coupons

My hubs is a Mitchum man and I have found that it is not often on sale AND coupons for it are rare.  However, I found myself in luck this week with both sales and coupons. CVS and Walgreens (use the Walgreens in-ad coupon to get the sale price) both have it on sale through Saturday (5/14) for $1.99.  Plus, click here to print a coupon for $1.00 off Mitchum deodorant! This makes it only $.99!

The coupon will say “available at Walmart,” but it is a manufacturer’s coupon that can be used at any store.  However, if it said “redeem only at Walmart,” in that case you could only use it at good ol’ Wally World.

One other great deal I wanted to mention is INEXPENSIVE nail polish at Target.  Currently the Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear nail polish is priced at $2.49.  However, you can get the price down to only $.49 by using these two coupons:

Click here to print a coupon for $1.00 off a Sally Hansen nail treatment product!

Click here to print a Target coupon for $1.00 off a Sally Hansen nail treatment product!

Kandoo Wipes are currently priced $1.49 at Target.  However, today I used a coupon from a Sunday newspaper coupon insert for $1.00 off any Kandoo item which made them only $.49.  Also, click here to sign up for a $1.00 off Kandoo wipes coupon  you can use later on (it will be mailed to you in 4-6 weeks).

HOT New Coupons

$2.00 off Seattle’s Best Coffee

$2.00 off Pull-ups Training Pants

$1.00 off Cheez-It Baby Swiss Crackers

$1.00 off Kellogg’s Smart Start Cereal

$3.00 off Avery Full Sheet Mailing Labels

$5.00 off Nature Made Calcium at Walgreens

$.50 off Duncan Hines Brownie Mix (Makes it only $.33 at CVS through Saturday, May 14)

A Reader’s Shopping Trip to Harris Teeter This Week

I love sharing the deals that I find and my shopping trips on this site, but I love even more to see the great deals and shopping trips others are having, as well!  A reader submitted the picture above of her very successful Harris Teeter shopping trip this week.  Her total dropped from $97.90 down to $19.26!  Great job!!! To submit pictures of your shopping trips, email pictures and your savings to info@homemakingmom.com!

Finally, here is a video I created to cover the very basics of getting started with couponing. The link to the coupon binder organization video that I refer to in the video below is here.
