Savvy Saturday Quick Tip – The Tissue Paper Experiment

I have three little boys and they attend a lot of birthday parties.  I have an impressive “stash” of gift bags, gift wrap, cards, ribbons, etc.  However, I discovered this morning when I went to wrap (more like bag up) birthday gifts for the two parties my five-year-old is attending this weekend, that I was totally OUT of tissue paper.

O.k., when I say “out,” I actually mean that I didn’t have any brand new tissue paper right out of the pack.  What did I have?  Lots of crumpled up tissue paper in gift boxes and bags from Christmas.  I tried to work with it…I flattened it…I smoothed it out…but, no…it wasn’t going to work.  As much as I tried to work with it, it still looked pretty rough (see picture below).

I once read that you can use a warm iron to smooth out tissue paper to make it look good as new.  And, you know what, I put this tip to the test this morning and IT WORKS! As you can see in the following picture, the iron flattened it out and made it look crisp once again.

I must say I am feeling pretty “green” right now 🙂  The tissue paper that could’ve hit the landfill is now getting to be used one more time.  I love when I find a resourceful way to use what I already have on hand here at home. Now, I am not saying that I am going to start ironing all of my tissue paper out as opposed to buying more, but it sure is nice to know this helpful tip that I can use in the future when in a pinch.  I hope it helps you out, as well…

CVS Shopping Trip 1/16

Today I had to do a quick run to CVS to pick up diapers, as we were down to only three left in the house. EMERGENCY!   However, CVS didn’t have any great diaper deals this week.  The Pampers and Huggies were both $11.99 (full price), but I had a $1.50 off Pampers manufacturer coupon so I went with the Pampers (I haven’t had good luck with the CVS brand diapers in the past).

I also noticed in the weekly ad that the canned Pepsi products are buy six for $20, then receive $10 in Extra Care Bucks.  Since I already needed to spend $11.99 on diapers, I figured why not spend $20 to stock up on canned drinks (these will last quite a while), receive $10 in Extra Care Bucks that I can in turn buy the diapers with.  Basically, for around $20.00 I could purchase six twelve packs of canned drinks and the diapers.

But, I wondered “how I can I make this deal better?”  That is where the two bottles of mouthwash and toothpaste came into play.  I didn’t necessarily need these items this week, but they would essentially come out free since I would use coupons on all three and only pay $4.72 (plus tax), but they would produce $5.00 in Extra Care Bucks that I would use towards the purchase of the six twelve packs on canned drinks.  I hope all of this makes sense.

Here is a breakdown of my transactions:

Transaction #1

Purchase Listerine Total Care Mouthwash – $3.99
Purchase Crest ProHealth Mouthwash – $2.99
Purchase Crest ProHeath Toothpaste – $2.99
Coupon – $2.00 off Listerine Mouthwash
Coupon – $2.00 off Crest Mouthwash
Coupon – $.75 off Crest Toothpaste
Coupon – $.50 Extra Care Buck from Previous Shopping Trip
Total – $4.72 (Plus Tax)
RECEIVED $5.00 in Extra Care Bucks

Transaction #2

Purchase Six Twelve Packs of Pepsi Canned Drinks – $3.34 each
Coupon – $5.00 Extra Care Bucks from Transaction #1
Total – $15.00 (Plus Tax)
RECEIVED $10.00 in Extra Care Bucks

Transaction #3

Purchase Pampers Diapers (Jumbo Pack) – $11.99
Coupon – $1.50 off Manufacturer’s Coupon
Coupon – $10.00 Extra Care Bucks from Transaction #2
Total – $.49 (Plus Tax)

I spent a total of $20.21 (plus tax) for all items shown in the picture.  If I had just ran in the store to purchase the diapers without checking the ad and planning my shopping trip ahead of time, I would’ve spent for the Pampers: $11.99 – $1.50 coupon = $10.49 (plus tax).  So, for an extra $9.72 I ended up with six twelve packs, two bottles of mouthwash and a tube of toothpaste.  Bottom line is it pays to plan your shopping trip ahead of time and to keep rolling your Extra Care Bucks (as shown in the example above).

Spend Less Money Printing Coupons – Save Up to 85% on Ink Cartridges

Up to 85% OFF Printer Ink

Ink cartridges can get pricey! However, I no longer venture into a super store or office supply store to purchase ink cartridges.  I have found it is much less expensive to order them online

I either purchase them through reputable, high ranking sites on Ebay or use, which is currently offering cartridges up to 85% off and FREE SHIPPING for orders totaling atleast $55.  I wanted to share this as it may be helpful to many of you who are following my grocery deals and print coupons.
