$60 Weekly Grocery Challenge – Spent $61.43 For a Wide Variety of Items This Week

What is the $60 Weekly Grocery Challenge?

Each week my goal is to spend approximately $60 for food, drinks, groceries, toiletries, diapers and medicine for my family of five. Then, I report on this blog the items that I bought, the best sales and coupon match-ups that I found and hopefully by doing so, help you stretch your family’s grocery budget, as well!

How Did I Do This Week?

Aldi – $14.09
Harris Teeter – $41.47
Target – $5.87

Total for the Week – $61.43

Aldi Shopping Trip

Spent $14.09

Here is my receipt showing a breakdown of prices paid for each item:

Harris Teeter Shopping Trip

Spent $41.47

Here is my receipt:

I wish I could show you the total amount saved this week (like I normally do); however, the register ran out of tape and the receipt smudged this one particular area.

However, I could tell the following from the receipt:

–VIC savings – $52.54
–E-VIC coupon savings – $3.40
–Coupon savings – ??? All I know was that it was a lot :)

My $41.47 total included two packages of pork chops, two packages of pork boneless ribs, Hillshire Farm ham lunch meat and a pound of shrimp from the meat department (on sale this week for only $4.99/lb.).

I also purchased two bags of shredded cheese, eggs, milk, two bags of fresh grapefruit, cottage cheese, oatmeal, soft tortillas, toothpaste, four boxes of cereal, baby wipes, children’s ibuprofen and more. It was a great shopping week!

Quick Stop at Target

Spent $5.87

At my house, we are almost out of the diaper stage.  My 3-year-old son has been potty trained for quite a while, but I still put him in a Pull-Up before bedtime, “just in case.” I can see the end of buying Pull-Ups is in sight (yay)!

Target Pull-Ups Deal:

Pull-Ups Training Pants – $8.99
Manufacturer’s Coupon – $2.00 off - Click here to print!
Target Store Coupon – $1.50 off – Click here to print!
Total – $5.49 (plus tax)

This trip is just amazing to me! Was your meat, aside from the shrimp, on sale? That’s practically $40 in meat alone! Love your blog!! I hope I can get to this point soon. I’m just starting out.

Jenn – The Pull-Ups deal was great! You were smart to stock up at a great price.

Thank you so much, Sherry! You can absolutely do this! All it takes is some planning prior to going to the store and matching coupons to sales each week to purchase items at their rock bottom prices. If you have any questions about couponing as you are getting started, please comment and let me know. Myself (and I am sure the others who regularly comment on this blog) will be happy to answer your questions and clarify things.

As for the meat I purchased, yes, it was all on sale this week. The pork chops and country-style boneless pork ribs are both on sale buy one, get one free (or 50% off each). The shrimp is on sale this week for $4.99/lb. versus the usual $9.99/lb. So, it is a great week to purchase those items.
