$60 Weekly Grocery Challenge – Spent $60.58 Shopping at Harris Teeter & Lowes Foods Super Doubles

What is the $60 Weekly Grocery Challenge?

Each week my goal is to spend approximately $60 for food, drinks, groceries, toiletries, diapers and medicine for my family of five. Then, I report on this blog the items that I bought, the best sales and coupon match-ups that I found and hopefully by doing so, help you stretch your family’s grocery budget, as well!

How Did I Do This Week?

Harris Teeter – Spent $32.59, Saved $.97.51
Lowes Foods – Spent $27.99, Saved $65.51

Total for the Week – Spent $60.58, Saved $163.02

This week, I skipped Aldi since I still have plenty of produce on hand from recent weeks (apples, oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, lettuce, carrots, potatoes, etc.).  Instead, I focused on Harris Teeter (awesome deals this week) and Lowes Foods (which is not generally part of my grocery shopping routine, but I went this week since it is super doubles).

I feel like I really stretched my $60 grocery goal this week. I purchased three packages of split chicken breasts, a pot roast, two packages of bacon, three packages of lunch meat, milk, bread, cheese, four containers of nuts, yogurt, laundry detergent, two bottles of juice, bag of coffee, five boxes of oatmeal, snacks, condiments and more.  Really, a little bit of just about everything (except produce, since I still have plenty at home) was included this week…

A few notes about this trip:

- I FINALLY got the Welch’s Light grape juice that was on sale recently making it only $.39 after doubled coupon.  It is no longer on sale this week, but thankfully, I had gotten a rain check.

- I stocked up on split chicken breasts (on sale this week for only $.99/lb.). The total for all three packages combined was only around $10. Not sure how to fix split chicken breast? Click here to view my step-by-step instructions.

- I used a competitor’s coupon for $2.50 off my shopping trip. I am really missing the $10/$50 purchase coupons that used to be available from Recyclebank; however, I am doing a much better job of watching out for competitor coupons for dollars off the total purchase price. Every little bit helps, right?

Do you know your price on the Charmin wipes? Didn’t see it on the list, but I may have just missed it

Hi Alyson – The Charmin wipes are on sale for $2.50. Then, I doubled $1.00 off coupons that I had received in the mail recently (I believe they were from Vocalpoint). It made each box of wipes only $.50.

The Recyclebank $10/$50 are available again, at least for me! I have gotten 2 sets of them in the last couple of weeks!

Hi Olivia – Are you part of the home recycling program on Recyclebank? Whenever I try to request the $10/$50 coupon, it won’t allow me to since I am not part of an approved home recycling program. There isn’t an approved home recycling program offered in my area, so it is a bummer all the way around (no recycling program, no HT coupon).

Great deal on the chicken! I read your post about how to fix the split chicken breast, and I think I will try it in my electric pressure cooker. I’ve just been using the boneless, but the price is so much better on the split! Thanks for the great tips!
