Couponing for Charity – Giving A Lot Doesn’t Have to Cost A Lot

Yesterday, the church where my son attends preschool sent home a note that they are collecting non-perishable food items to help local families.

This was just the opportunity I have been waiting to come along!  One of my goals this year is to help others by giving more. Recently, I read a statistic that 49 million Americans don’t know where their next meal is coming from. Shocking! Many of these Americans are children (which is absolutely heart-breaking to me).

My family is blessed beyond measure and we have never experienced hunger and poverty. I can’t imagine what that would be like.

As I strategically use coupons to maximize my savings each week for my family, I am striving to go beyond my household. I hope to gather more and more items over time to donate and help those in need.

Giving a lot doesn’t have to actually cost alot. For all of the items that I have pulled out of my pantry (pictured above) so far to donate, I probably only spent a grand total of $4 – $5.

I know so many generous couponers out there! We love to save, but we love to give even more!

I encourage you, as you are picking up grocery deals each week, to keep in mind the charitable aspect of what can be achieved with coupons. Your family may have plenty of canned soup on hand, but go ahead and pick it up when it is at its rock bottom price and pass it on to others in need. Your family doesn’t eat Hamburger Helper?  I bet there are plenty of families who would LOVE it for dinner as opposed to having nothing. You get my point.

Times are tough out there for many…lets do all we can to help!

Readers, do you have any tips for using coupons to help others? Please share!

I have done this several times, but delivered straight to my local Urban Ministry. :)

I have been meaning to tell you how much I appreciate this post. You are so right, there are so many people out there that would be so grateful to receive our deals in our coupon savings. My husband recently started a new job, but before that he had been laid off for awhile and couponing really helped us through some tight spots. Now that we are getting our feet under us again, I really want to be able to help people out through similar circumstances. I really want to make it a goal this year to set aside some money in our budget (even $5 or $10 every week/ month or so) and use for donations only. If I just gave $5 to a local care center or ministry, it would be a blessing, but if I took $5 of coupon savings to the care center, it would multiply my gift, and I’m very excited to do that. :)
